Phelps,
New Yorkis a small rural community whose residents
take much pride in its history and preservation.
Phelps, the former home of Silver Floss Sauerkraut
factory and considered the Sauerkraut Capitol
of the World, is host to the famous Souerkraut
Festival every year during the first weekend
in August. The pickled cabbage once produced
in this small village, causes a stir amongst
the locals, who compete to create the best sauerkraut-based
dish and decorating a cabbage head. |

The
architecture in Phelps is quite varied. Although
incorporated in 1855, the village has been settled
for much longer than that. There are many Victorian,
Greek Revival, and Colonial style houses throughout
the area, as well as more modern architectural
styles, such as houses from the Arts & Crafts
era of the early 20th century.
